Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. Lent comes from the Anglo Saxon word lencten, which means "spring." The forty days represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring the temptation of Satan and preparing to begin his ministry.

Lent is a can be a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Resurrection Sunday (Easter). It is a time of self-examination and reflection. Today, Christians focus on their relationship with God, often choosing to give up something or to volunteer and give of themselves for others.

Lenten Life Group's

Starting March 2 - April 10

Each year at Stanwich, we conduct church-wide weekly Bible studies during the season of Lent,  which begins on Ash Wednesday (February 26) and leads to Holy Week.  All groups study the same material each week. This year we have chosen the sermon series entitled Jesus 101. Jesus is called many things in the New Testament, from the New Adam to the Light of the World. Each proclamation reveals unique truths about him.

This Lent we will be taking a deeper look at seven statements and stories of Jesus, and their implications. If you plan to join one of the groups on this list, please email the leader.  We invite you to come along side us in our Lenten sermon series this season entitled Jesus 101. We also invite you to take a look at other events we host during Holy Week.
