ELDERS

Elders at Stanwich Church

The Elders are elected from within the congregation to assist the pastors and serve the church in the practical, spiritual, and temporal matters of the church body, and oversee and assist in the business and financial matters of the church body and facilities.   There are twelve Elders in total, each serving a three-year term. Email Elders

 

We take our direction from the word of God. According to the New Testament, Elders are responsible for the primary leadership and oversight of a church. The function and role of an Elder is well summarized by Alexander Strauch in his book Biblical Eldership:

 

“Elders lead the church [1 Tim 5:17; Titus 1:7; 1 Peter 5:1–2], teach and preach the Word [1 Timothy 3:2; 2 Timothy 4:2; Titus 1:9], protect the church from false teachers [Acts 20:17, 28–31], exhort and admonish the saints in sound doctrine [1 Timothy 4:13; 2 Timothy 3:13–17; Titus 1:9], visit the sick and pray [James 5:14; Acts 6:4], and judge doctrinal issues [Acts 15:6]. In biblical terminology, Elders shepherd, oversee, lead, and care for the local church”.

Laurie Curtis

 

Laurie has been at Stanwich with her husband Mark for 27 years. They live in Riverside, and have two grown children, Sam & Erin, who both live in New York City. 

Jon Neitzell

 

Jonathan and his family joined Stanwich in the fall of 2022.  He and his wife Kiesha enjoy trying to keep up with their three children (Natasha, Sophia, Alexander) during their pursuits in work, school, lacrosse, and wrestling. 

Tim Lukes

 

Tim has been attending Stanwich since 2016.  He and his wife, Mónica, live in Greenwich with their two children Daniella and Andrew.

Gad Lim

 

Gad has been attending Stanwich since moving to Greenwich in 2018. He and his wife Kirby live in Riverside with their son and three daughters.

Todd Looney

 

Todd has been a member of Stanwich since 2022. He and his wife Peach live in Stamford. They have two daughters, Hannah and Teah. As a family, they enjoy traveling, sports, and serving the Lord together. 

Elizabeth Wolf

 

Elizabeth has been attending Stanwich with her family for almost 15 years. She is now an active member of the Student Ministry and Stamford Campus initiative. She lives in downtown Greenwich and loves spending time on the water and in the woods.

Michael Nyenhuis

 

Michael has been attending Stanwich since 2014. He and his wife, Susie, met at Stanwich and were married there. They live in Stamford with their golden retriever, Izzy.

Christa Otto

 

Before moving to Greenwich in 2022, Christa prayed to find a church and a life group—and found both at Stanwich after being invited by a neighbor. She lives in Greenwich with her husband Louw, and their three children, and is grateful to serve as an elder, excited to see what the Lord will do.

Rachel Gerli

 

Rachel and her husband Bennett have been members of Stanwich Church since 2019. They live in Stamford, with their three children. 

Carl Higbie

 

Carl has attended Stanwich since 1998 and has served on several of our church committees since then.  He lives in Greenwich with his wife, Maria.  His three children, Carl, Christine and Catie and four grandchildren all live in the area.

Laura LaSpalluto

 

Laura has been attending Stanwich since 2014. She coordinates the Prayer Shawl Ministry and is a blogger, speaker and photographer. Laura and her husband Bill (Voth) live in Stamford.

Jeff Capuano

 

Jeff has been a member of Stanwich Church since 2022. He and his wife Kathy live in Scarsdale, NY.
